At the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on Friday, the Egyptian Super Cup will feature
a match between Zamalek and Al Ahly.
With 11 and 4 titles under their belts, respectively, Al Ahly and Zamalek are
the most and second-most successful teams in the competition's history. In the
past 14 finals, Al Ahly has earned a spot in the Egyptian Super Cup.
Zamalek is back in the final after being eliminated the previous year. In
their last two attempts to reach the penalty shootout final, Al Ahly lost.
While Tala'ea El Gaish triumphed with a 3-2 victory on penalties the previous
year, Zamalek suffered a 4-3 setback on penalties in 2020.
Last year, Zamalek won the Egypt Cup and Egyptian Premier League.
Last season, Zamalek won both the Egyptian Premier League and the Egypt Cup,
and they will be attempting to win a trifecta this time around. Al Ahly came
in third place in the league last year and lost to Zamalek 2-1 in the Egypt
Cup.
For the seventh time, the two teams which compete in the renowned Cairo
derby will square off in the Egyptian Super Cup final.
Comparison of Zamalek versus Al Ahly, along with Key Data
Throughout all tournaments, including friendly matches, the two teams have
faced off 243 times. With 105 victories, Al Ahly has dominated the matchups
with El Abyad. Zamalek has managed to win 59 games, while 80 others have
resulted in draws. Al Ahly has five victories in the seven confrontations in
the Egyptian Super Cup finals, while Zamalek has won two games. In four of
these seven encounters, no goals were scored, and the outcomes were settled
by penalties. Zamalek defeated Al Ahly 2-1 in their previous match in the
Egypt Cup final, while Al Ahly had lost both of their most recent encounters
with Zamalek. More than 2.5 goals have been scored in six of the last seven
encounters between the two teams.
Al Ahly vs. Zamalek Prediction
Both sides have had successful starts to their Egyptian Premier League
seasons, winning two straight games without surrendering a goal. Al Ahly has
a perfect record in all competitions this year and hasn't given up a goal in
any of their five games, including two CAF Champions League first-round
contests.
Zamalek has won six straight games in all leagues, and they hope to continue
their winning streak today. After losing their last two finals, El Mared's
jitters might get the best of them in this game given their recent struggles
against Zamalek. We predict Zamalek to win by a slim margin.
