Liverpool's Darwin Nunez: Anfield legend Suarez warned me not to screw up again

Darwin Nunez, a striker for Liverpool, told ESPN that after receiving a red card against Crystal Palace, Luis Suarez messaged him with advise, advising him to "be strong" if he wanted to thrive in the Premier League. Since moving to Liverpool from Benfica this summer, Nunez has had a rocky start to his career. He was dismissed earlier this year for headbutting Joachim Andersen in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace. Suarez, a fellow Uruguayan and former Anfield great, was motivated by this to send Nunez a note with advice on how to handle provocation from defenders in the English top division.

Nunez said to ESPN, "I think his gesture was incredibly important for me. Not many would bother themselves to pick up the phone and give you a message.

"Luis is a benchmark and an idol all around the world. I'm just getting started, I'm young, and he already played in the Premier League with Liverpool, so he is aware of all those things.

"Luis told me that similar things will occur in every Premier League game, that they'll come looking for me, that they'll run into me, and that I need to build myself up and not make the same mistake twice.
