As one of three Russian ships to be struck in Sevastopol, investigators believe that Ukraine may have disabled Admiral Makarov.
According to an analysis of video, the Admiral Makarov, Russia's Black Sea flagship ship, was damaged and perhaps rendered inoperable during a brazen Ukrainian drone attack on the Crimean port of Sevastopol over the weekend.
The frigate was one of three Russian ships attacked on Saturday, according to open-source investigators. At 4.20 am, a swarm of drones, some soaring through the air and others swiftly skimming across the water, struck Russia's fleet. The autonomous vehicle can be seen squeezing between hostile boats in video taken by one of the sea drones.
According to Ukrainian officials, it was unclear whether Admiral Makarov had been severely injured or had managed to flee.
Unconfirmed sources claimed its radar systems were destroyed and that its hull had been penetrated. Social media captured powerful explosions near Riflemen's Bay, in the southern portion of Sevastopol. Nearby is a school for the Russian navy.
Ukraine reportedly used nine air drones and seven maritime drones, several of which were intercepted, including by a Russian helicopter, according to the Moscow ministry of defence. Admiral Makarov was left out of the conversation. The Ivan Golubets, a minesweeper, suffered "minimal damage," the ministry said.
Moscow announced on Sunday that the drones had been found and were being examined. They have navigation modules built in Canada, according to the ministry. It claimed that a Royal Navy crew planned the attack from a port in southern Ukraine and accused the UK for it.
Andriy Tsaplienko, a journalist from Ukraine, shared stunning video taken by a drone off the Crimean coast in which it appeared to avoid gunshots striking the ocean while its route to a target ship. He claimed that in addition to the Admiral Makarov, at least two additional ships carrying Kalibr cruise missiles, including a transport ship, perhaps the Chamois or Lightning, were also damaged. He stated, "There is a good likelihood that a number of ships are not just damaged but sunk."
A volunteer organisation called GeoConfirmed reported on Sunday that a "Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate" had been attacked. It came to the following conclusion after looking at still images: "Only the Admiral Makarov matches this class for the Black Sea Fleet." When a drone reaches the Russian boat, the video ends.
Volodymyr Zelenskiy's advisers have made suggestions that Ukraine was behind the well-planned raid on Saturday. No fault has been ascribed to his government. In a meticulously thought-out operation that took the Kremlin off surprise, Kyiv looks to have punched a hole in a prominent Russian navy warship for the second time.
It comes after the dramatic April sinking of the 510-person crewed Soviet-built gun platform known as the Moskva battleship. Many people died. The Moskva was the largest ship to be sunk in combat since 1945, and it was the first time Russia had lost a flagship since the Russo-Japanese War in 1905. Now, the whole Russian Black Sea fleet appears to be open to electronic attack.
