Jaylen Brown said this week that he is quitting Kanye West's Donda Sports and first discussed his decision following the Celtics' loss to the Cavaliers on Friday night at TD Garden.
"If I had stayed, what would have happened?
Brown remarked. "I put a lot of effort into obtaining the platform I do, and I utilise it to speak up for those who cannot. I didn't think it would be the correct choice to surrender that platform, therefore I had to make the necessary decisions.
Brown talked fervently about wanting to assist the pupils harmed by the alleged closure of Donda Academy, a school that Kanye West founded, after justifying his choice.
The focus of my efforts at the moment, according to Brown, are Donda Sports and those children. "What's actually happening has nothing to do with these youngsters. Due to the conduct of others, they do not deserve for their season to end suddenly or for their academic year to be shortened or lessened. So I've been making an effort to lean in and gather resources to prevent that. In our culture, when someone reads a headline, they immediately assume they are fully informed about the subject. I spent a lot of time with Donda teaching those youngsters and their parents while developing relationships with them.
"Their sole transgression is attempting to seize a special chance to advance in life. There are many wonderful activities, opportunities, and materials built into that programme. For you guys, it might be an organisation connected to Kanye West, but to me, it's a school where I got to work with teachers, parents, and students who I know by name and face. I therefore perceive that circumstance differently. I want to make sure that those children receive the promises made to them by using my platform. There is certainly a lot going on, but I believe that is where the line is drawn. Education is important, and I believe I have advocated for it my entire career. You can do so.
