Chris Redd, a former Saturday Night Live cast member, was attacked Wednesday
night outside a comedy club in New York. An NYPD representative verified to The
Hollywood Reporter that the 37-year-old comedian and actor was punched by an
unidentified attacker outside the Comedy Cellar after arriving at the theatre.
According to a preliminary inquiry, Redd was assaulted after getting out of a
car in front of the club. At that point, the performer was approached by an
unidentified person who hit him in the face "without prior talk or provocation,"
according to an NYPD official. Redd sustained a facial laceration as a result of
the person running away from the scene. Redd was transported to a local hospital
after EMS arrived on the scene, where he received treatment before being
released.
THR has contacted the Comedy Cellar and Redd's representatives.
Three of Redd's evening performances are slated to take place at the Comedy
Cellar on Thursday, October 27. Currently, he is also set to perform at the
City Winery on October 30.
Redd gave notice of his resignation from Saturday Night Live earlier this
fall, just in time for the show's 48th season to begin.
In one of the greatest cast rotations in the history of the show, he was one
of eight actors who left. Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, Kyle
Mooney, Alex Moffat, Melissa Villaseor, and prominent player Aristotle
Athari all left before the current season.
