Worldwide iPhone and iPad users can now download iOS 15.7.1 and iPadOS 15.7.1 from Apple. Shortly after iOS 16.1, the update becomes available and offers the same crucial zero-day security patch as its next-generation brother. Here is all the information you require.
It's for whom?
For all iOS 15-compatible devices, including the iPhone 6S (2015) and newer and the iPad Air 2 (2014) and newer, Apple has released iOS 15.7.1 and iPadOS 15.7. It is preferable to manually launch the update by going to Settings > General > Software Update because Apple has acknowledged that auto-update delays occur. You must unenroll your device before the update is applied if you are using more recent beta software (see the section titled "The Road Ahead" at the bottom).
Although I will touch upon relevant concerns in these tutorials, this guide is not focused on iPadOS updates. Here is a link to my iOS 16.1 Upgrade Guide.
The Deal-Changers
For iOS 15.7.1, the first 24 hours have been quiet. The most significant problem is sporadic reports of the update breaking Face ID; this issue was raised during beta testing but was not anticipated to appear in the final version. Over the next few days, this is something to keep an eye on.
What Do You Get, then?
The only sentence in Apple's iOS 15.7.1 release notes is, "This update offers essential security fixes and is recommended for all users," in contrast to the lengthy list of new features in iOS 16.1.

According to Apple, hackers may have used vulnerability to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges.
It is yet unknown if Apple would update iOS 12 for older gadgets. I have constantly contacted Apple to let me know how CVE-2022-42827 will affect all iPad and iPhone generations, but I have not gotten a response.
Conclusion for Apple iOS 15.7.1: Update
iOS 15 is a mature platform, in contrast to iOS 16, which is still working to fix all of the flaws in its original release. This makes iOS 15.7.1 a strongly advised update, as do the security patch's relevance and the scant amount of upgrader concerns. My one warning is that a small percentage of upgraders are experiencing Face ID problems. I'll keep an eye on it and update the article.

The Future Route
Users of iOS 15 should only anticipate specialised fixes and security updates while Apple is already beta testing iOS 16.2. Given Apple's dedication to maintaining compatibility for earlier operating systems, iOS 15.7.2 will certainly be released at some time, but (barring a major Face ID problem) it won't be until a large new zero-day vulnerability is identified.
In the meantime, iOS 16.1 is expected to be the most reliable release of iOS 16 if you are itching to upgrade.
