Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), dodged a question on whether she now regrets making fun of President Biden and Democratic candidate for the Pennsylvania Senate John Fetterman on Sunday.
Do you regret at all how it could have come across as insensitive? Shannon Bream, presenter of "Fox News Sunday," asked McDaniel to reply to her recent remarks making fun of the president's speech impairment and Fetterman's speaking difficulties following a stroke.
"I would never make light of someone who is having a stroke, and I certainly want Joe Fri — Fetterman — John Fetterman to get better. In the interview, McDaniel repeatedly mispronounced the names of the two Democrats while asserting that they should be appearing before the media.
In an interview last week, McDaniel said that "maybe they can get a full sentence out" in response to the announcement that Biden, Fetterman, Vice President Harris, and others would campaign together in Pennsylvania.
Just prior to the state's Democratic primary earlier this year, Fetterman experienced a stroke. As a result, he has been grappling with questions about how his auditory and speech impairments might affect him if he were elected to the Senate throughout his campaign. Since he was a young child, Biden has struggled with and publicly addressed his stutter.
The RNC chairwoman was questioned on Sunday about whether or not she regrets the remarks, but she chose not to react.
"Joe — John Fetterman is taking Joe Biden's lead. They're in the basement, even though I'm mixing up the names. They aren't reaching out to voters and aren't being upfront about their problems, according to McDaniel.
